Install and set up

Install the plugin#

1. In WordPress go to Plugins → Add New, search for OctoPress and click Install Now, then Activate.
2. Or upload the plugin ZIP with Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.

When you activate OctoPress you are taken straight to the setup screen.

Until setup is finished, the OctoPress menu opens the setup screen. After you finish it, the menu shows Chats and Settings (and Schedules with Pro).

Run the first-run setup#

The setup screen is titled Welcome to OctoPress and shows your progress along the top. Nothing is sent anywhere until you send a message, and everything here can be changed later in Settings.

1. Provider: connect an AI provider#

OctoPress needs one provider and at least one model.

1. Pick how you want to connect. The first choices are ChatGPT, OpenAI API and Anthropic. Click Show all providers for Grok, xAI API, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, OpenCode Go, ZAI Coding Plan and ZAI API.
2. Connect:
   • API key providers: pick the provider, then paste the key and click Connect and load models. The connect screen has a link to the page where you create a key.
   • ChatGPT or Grok: click Connect ChatGPT or Connect Grok. A box shows a link and a one-time code. Open the link, sign in, and enter the code. The page updates when you are connected. The code expires after a few minutes; start again if it does.
3. Check the models. OctoPress turns on a set of models and picks a default for you. Switch off the ones you do not want, choose a default, and click Continue. Continue stays disabled until at least one model is enabled.

2. Start: review and finish#

The last step lists what is ready. Use Change or Finish this step to go back to any step. Click Start using OctoPress to open the chat.

After setup#

• Open OctoPress → Chats to start talking to Octo. See Your first chat.
• Add more providers or models any time in OctoPress → Settings → Providers. See Connect a provider.
• Change how OctoPress looks in Settings → Appearance. See Appearance.

If setup does not continue#

• Continue is disabled. A provider is connected but no model is enabled, or no provider is connected yet. Enable at least one model.
• The ChatGPT or Grok code expired. Click the connect button again to get a new code.
• The provider rejects your key. Check that the key is for the right provider and that the account has billing or credits where the provider requires them.
