Charts and tables
Ask for charts, sort and export tables in replies, or browse current WordPress records in a live table.
Octo can present numbers as charts and tables inside a chat reply. These features are included in Free. Ask for the result you want; you do not need to write chart code or configure a separate reporting screen.
Ask for a report#
Tell Octo what to compare, the date range, and any filters. For example:
- "Show a bar chart of published posts by category. Explain which posts you counted."
- "Compare these monthly totals in a line chart and summarize the trend."
- "Show my draft posts in a live table with title, date and status."
- "Show WooCommerce products in a searchable table with name, price and stock status."
Available data depends on the enabled tools, the agent, and your WordPress permissions. WooCommerce tables also require WooCommerce and access to the relevant records. OctoPress does not gain access to visitor analytics or another service just because it can draw charts.
The Data Visualization skill guides agents on chart choice and table presentation. It must be enabled and allowed for the selected agent; see Skills. A live table also needs the Prepare Data Table tool; see Tool access and roles.
Read a chart#
Supported charts are bar, line, area, pie and donut. Bar charts suit comparisons; line and area charts suit trends; pie and donut charts suit a small number of shares.
- Point at a bar, point or slice to inspect its values.
- Click legend entries to hide or show a series or category.
- Click View as table to read the values as rows. View chart switches back.
Charts can contain up to 200 data rows and 8 series. For large reports, ask Octo to group the figures by month or category, or show a top-ten breakdown rather than every record.
Work with a table in a reply#
Ordinary tables contain the rows Octo included in its answer. Tables with at least three rows support sorting through their column headings. With six or more rows, the table also offers:
- Search rows to narrow the included rows.
- Filters for individual columns.
- Copy as CSV and Download CSV for the matching rows.
These controls work on the data already in the reply. They do not search all posts or products on your site. A CSV export contains the matching rows from that answer, not a full database export.
Browse a live table#
A live table loads records from your WordPress site instead of putting a long list into the answer. Depending on how Octo prepares it, you can:
- search for records;
- sort supported columns;
- choose filters such as status;
- move between pages;
- click Refresh to fetch the current results again.
Live tables can show posts, pages, media, comments, users, categories, tags, and other supported WordPress or WooCommerce collections. Each request uses your current WordPress permissions. Preparing or browsing a table is read-only and does not change records.
Charts and ordinary tables preserve the data used when the reply was written. Live tables fetch current records, so reopening an older chat can show different rows or totals. Live tables do not currently have the ordinary table's CSV export controls.
If something looks wrong#
- Ask Octo to state its source, date range, filters, and whether it counted all records or only a sample. A chart does not make incomplete data complete.
- If a chart or table shows Couldn't render this chart or Couldn't render this table, ask Octo to correct the response using the displayed error.
- If a live table cannot load, read the error shown in the table. Your access may have changed, or the plugin providing those records may no longer be active. Try Refresh after resolving the cause.
- If an agent only returns prose, ask explicitly for a chart or table and check that Data Visualization is enabled for it.
