Images in chat
Attach images to a message, preview them, reuse them later and save images to the WordPress Media Library.
If the selected model can read images, you can attach screenshots and pictures to a message. This is useful for questions like "why does this page look wrong?" or "write alt text for this photo".
Attach an image#
- Click the image button under the message box (Attach images).
- Choose up to 4 images. Formats: PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF. Each image can be up to 10 MB.
- Thumbnails appear above the box. Click the ✕ on a thumbnail to remove it.
- Write your message and send it.
The image button is greyed out when it cannot be used. Hover or focus it to read why:
| Message | Meaning |
|---|---|
| The selected model does not support image attachments. | Pick a model that accepts images. |
| A maximum of 4 images can be attached. | Remove one first. |
| Images are uploading. | Wait a moment. |
| Image attachments are unavailable while the chat is busy. | Wait for the run to finish, or stop it. |
| Configure an enabled provider model before attaching images. | Connect a provider first. |
Preview and reuse#
Click any thumbnail in the conversation to open the preview. It shows the file name, size and type, and these buttons:
- Save to Media Library: copies the image into Media so you can use it on your site.
- Add to message: attaches the same image to your next message, up to the limit of 4.
- Close
Images that Octo generates (Pro, with a ChatGPT or OpenAI provider) appear the same way and can be saved with Save to Media Library.
Good to know#
- Images are stored with the chat in your WordPress site, not sent anywhere except to your chosen provider as part of the request.
- Older images stay available to Octo for later questions in the same chat.
- Octo can also import a public image URL or a chat image with Manage Media, which asks for approval unless the chat auto-approves it. This tool can import other WordPress-allowed public files too, but chat attachments remain images only.
